Finally convinced my dentist after 6 months to give me expanders, probably because he messed up some stuff with my insurance so i got a little extra help.

Even so my advice and from what i did to convince him was every session i would tell him about how my tongue didn’t fit all the way in the roof of my mouth, complained i snored when i sleep, that my airway isn’t open enough, and that i had masseter tightness and pain (which can lead to TMJ if not fixed)


Im getting a NiTi Expander for my upper palate and a Schwartz appliance for the arch which aligns the bite during expansion

He said 3-4 mm of expansion over 3-4 months, ill update on how it goes when i get them installed near the end of may.

i dont need a MSE or MARPE it would be too much for MY teeth fucking them in the process. Most results with a NiTi expander dont result in tipping so idk where youre getting that from. obviously in some cases it can happen but thats everything. the Niti still expands the maxilla either way no?

Dude I mean this in the nicest way possible. I've been researching this for a WHILE because I got fucked over by MULITPLE orthodontists. I'm trying to help you, because I went down this exact route with a jewish orthodontists

If you want any facial changes through an expansion device, you need your midpalate suture to be split open. MSE and MARPE are anchored to your maxilla, and it's going to split your suture open, and give you facial changes/skeletal expansion as you keep turning the device. It's not going to affect your teeth in the slightest.

dental tipping is when your teeth go from its current position, to slightly more flared out. This is how orthodontists will "camouflage" your skeletal issues, artificially creating a wider dental arch.

NiTi expander isn't anchored to your maxilla at all, it's anchored to your teeth, and it's going to create said dental tipping. It physically cannot expand your maxilla, because it's NOT anchored to it, and your suture is currently fused. Your bones being SOFT, LIKE MINE, only means a MARPE/MSE will give you a palate split earlier than others with denser bones, that's it.

TLDR: NiTi Expander is not going to give any maxilla expansion, it's only going to expand your arch through dental tipping. MARPE/MSE is pushing your bones apart, not your teeth.

oh i lowkey misinterpreted tipping as the tooths angle not the entire arch, but yea i understand it now. it will still help facially either way i dont think i could get him onto a marpe or mse and other places arent an option ill call and ask why i cant. pretty sure its cause i got oligidoncha --> it would mess my teeth up more, i wouldnt really care tho i have to get 8 fake ones in the future atleast might aswell try with the bad ones. Even all that wont it still make it appear wider? yea the bone isnt pushing outwards it would still act like that no? and or give atleast a little.
