Since medpor means porous structure of the implants, it won't cause later infections like the silicone implants.
So why they don't use custom designed medpor instead of silicone ?
I couldn't find any kind of custom designed version of medpor.

This is the proof that medpor started act as a part of the face.

@SurgerySoon i find that when it comes to custom designed, Dr.Y also use silicone. Why ?

Advantages of medpor
  • Well known implant material for decades. Has been used for orthopedic reasons (hip, knee replacements for years) with really low infection rate. They are not problematic.
  • With tissue ingrowth, they can be stable for a life time. Late infection near impossible.
  • It has a hard surface so it can be fixated with screws without causing later migration. So it could stay there for a life time , again.
Disadvantages
  • Hard to remove if you don't like the design itself due to tissue ingrowth.

i disagree but elaborate.

Recently I went a specialist of Implants for my Zigos, he told me about Medpor in addition to being more bulky, the material is spongy, and makes infection more easily.

wtf this is the reason actually why medpor has low infection rate.
who is the doctor ?

IIRC Medpor is a fucking fuck fiesta to get rid of down the line and hence why it is gradually being phased out by most surgeons. Whas like a solid year since I did research on implants though since I decided to go the bone route as BONES IS EVERYTHING.

vast majority of osteotomies only favors subhuman to normie changes.
if you are a normie (like no recession on maxilla&chin) osteotomies are worthless.
they don't give enough projection to ascend pslwise.

He suggested silicone for my implants in case I wanted removal some day; I'm guessing he takes that approach with most patients.

so i'm considering getting zygo + jaw implants with eppley at the end of the summer.
let's say that after getting it done&swelling gone i want to go with medpor implants.
should the doc can remove silicone implant and then put medpor immediately ? or should i wait for montsh to get new one even though there's no signs of infection?

I'm asking because silicone could be problematic after years but medpor starting to act like your bone because of the tissue growth so it's more reliable.

My understanding is that the new Medpor implants could be placed immediately during the same surgery as the removal of the silicone implants. BTW, from what Eppley and Dr. Y have said, silicone implants aren't known to be problematic as long as they're fixated to the bone with screws.

Actually my research shows that too but some reason some surgeons especially surgeons do osteotomies regularly talk shit about silicone as a facial implant.
they say medpor is the most reliable by the case reports since it's also used for decades for hip/knee replacements etc.

Thank you for helping btw.

Silicon is fine for implants, it's been used for years. I don't think there are any significant differences in infection rates between the two.

My chin and jaw implants are medpor. I seem to recall that because medpor is porous it is impossible to sterilize by conventional methods and needs to be sterilized for two weeks by neutron radiation. Hence no customization. What my doctor did was add a piece of 0.004” thick medpor sheet/tape that the company sells to the implant. That increased lateral projection from 0.11”. To 0.015”
