It's prescribed in a high dosage for diabetes-patients. But in a low dosage, supposedly, it is great for anti-aging:
'Food intake and body weight are decreased as a result of a direct action of metformin on the hypothalamic centers regulating satiety and feeding; it may also influence metabolic and cellular processes associated with the development of chronic conditions of aging, including inflammation, fatty liver, oxidative damage, protein glycation, cellular senescence, diminished autophagy, apoptosis, and development of several types of cancer.
A number of recent studies support the role of metformin in improving health span and life span in different animal models.The possibility exists, therefore, for similar beneficial actions of metformin in human health and longevity.'
