We all are familiar with insulin right ?, insulin sensitivity means how your cells in the body responds to insulin when you are insulin sensitive, your body needs a small amount of insulin to move glucose from your bloodstream into your cells for energy, keeping your blood sugar levels perfectly stable
And when you have low insulin sensitivity your body will not respond well to insulin as a result glucose levels will increase in your blood stream this will force the pancreas to pump out more and more insulin to force the cells to respond. this will lead to diabetes

The Redox Mechanism
Metformin directly inhibits a mitochondrial enzyme called glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (mGPDH).
This inhibition alters the cytosolic ratio of NADH to NAD⁺.
By shifting this balance, the liver is deprived of the key substrates (specifically lactate and glycerol) which it needs to manufacture new glucose.
AMPK Pathway
It causes a mild energy stress within the (liver cell), slightly dropping ATP levels and raising AMP levels.
is shift activates AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), a main metabolic switch
AMPK shuts down energy consuming processes (like making glucose and fat) and promotes processes (like burning fatty acids).
GUT work ?
Metformin stimulates the enteroendocrine cells to release more Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), a hormone that signals the pancreas to secrete insulin after meals. which = improving insulin sensitivity
it also promotes short chain fatty acid in gut to improve intestinal barrier and reduce systemic inflammation.
It increases the amount of glucose consumed by the intestinal cells themselves, pulling it out of systemic circulation.
It triggers the translocation of GLUT4 transporters to the cell membrane. which allows glucose to enter the muscle cells to be burned for energy, thereby quickly clearing it from the blood so this is factor to get less insulin spike

DOSING
Under 150 lbs (68 kg): 500 mg – 1,000mg
150 lbs – 200 lbs (68 – 90 kg): 1,000 mg – 1,500 mg
Over 200 lbs (90 kg)+: to 1,500 mg – 2,000
Set the max to 2000 mg standard is 500 mg to 1500mg adjust according to your blood glucose or If 500 mg mg/day lowers your fasting glucose, stops mid-day sugar crashes, and reduces facial bloat, there is no reason to push to 1,500 mg.
TYPES OF METFORMIN
XR = extended release
IR= immediate release
If you want to reach an average dose of 1,000 mg+ without ruining your daily routine, Extended Release (XR) is practically required.
Standard Immediate Release (IR) spikes fast in the blood, causing sharp intestinal distress.
XR releases slowly over 24 hours, meaning a single 1,000 mg XR dose keeps baseline insulin steady all day with minimal gut cramping.
So choose what you want i will recommend to use xr because of slow release and less gut cramping
Start with 500Xr at dinner if the dosages is fine and nothing happens increase it to 1000

DWBI this won't happen these are really minimal
the major stuff that may occur is hypoglycemia ( low blood sugar )
While Metformin rarely causes low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) on its own, pairing a high dose (1,500 mg+) with a keto/carnivore diet or long fasting windows is not good
Check your fasting blood glucose. If your baseline fasting sugar is already low/healthy (e.g., in the low 80s mg/dL), a high dose of Metformin will offer diminishing returns
other is it will also reduce vitamin b 12 in body by 30 % so keep the b 12 high
and don't take this you have kidney related issue cause lactic acid will build up in blood when your kidney can't filter it requires emergency so remember don't take this if you have kidney related issue
Decreased endurance, mild lethargy, slower muscle recovery ; AMPK activation suppresses mTOR and reduces cellular energy (ATP).
Fix: Keep doses away from workout windows and don't over-dampen glucose.
