I started to use the forum again like one week ago so I don't know how much time this thing was going on but if he did that for attention or reps but it would be very,very dumb if that’s the case. A new High Court judge has been appointed in Northern Ireland.
Mr Justice Paul McLaughlin was sworn into office at a ceremony in Belfast today.
He follows in the footsteps of his father, Sir Richard McLaughlin, who also served as a High Court judge for more than a decade before retiring.
Lady Chief Justice Dame Siobhan Keegan oversaw her new colleague taking the judicial oath.
She told friends and family gathered in the Royal Courts of Justice: “I have no doubt he will add immeasurably to the experience of the bench.”
Mr Justice McLaughlin takes up his new position following a successful practice as a senior barrister specialising in civil and public law.
He studied law at both Trinity College Dublin and the Ivy League Cornell University in the United States before being called to the Bar in September 1997.

He also passed the New York Bar Exam in the same year.

Taking silk and admitted to the Inner Bar of Northern Ireland in February 2020, he accepted instructions from public and private sector clients as senior counsel.

Mr Justice McLaughlin has litigated in a wide range of cases involving human rights, administrative law, shareholder disputes and company director's duties, habitats protection and assessment, renewable energy policy, and agriculture regulation and development.

Earlier this month he represented the Department for Infrastructure in a high-profile legal challenge to the planned new £1.2bn A5 dual carriageway upgrade.

“He has argued whatever position he has been briefed on with distinction,” the Lady Chief Justice said.
At the same event solicitor Conor Heaney was also sworn in as a new District Judge.
