Modern television and media, especially as it relates to romantic relationships, are almost entirely poisonous.

There is a very strong process in the brain that takes place when viewing other people, most importantly, other people succeeding. This process subconsciously teaches the viewer to mimic the behavior patterns of others that achieve "success". However, this process cannot tell the difference between real life and live-action media, which subconsciously teaches you that the opposite of what actually works in reality, will surely work for you. Thus leading to horrible cognitive dissonance when confronted with the reality that what you've been "promised" will work, in fact, does not.
