mouth/lip widening by braces

so my mouth is a bit narrow (1:1.28 mouth to nose) and my teeth are a bit fucked like my palate isnt round its kind of squarish also causing me to have an 8 teeth smile when I would normally have 12 teeth. i was offered palate expander and braces by an ortho but palate expanding also sounds so scary because it can widen the whole face (my face is wide af already). my palate itself also isnt that narrow, i still have all my wisdom teeth and they dont need to be removed.

forgot to ask. can this shit actually widen my mouth or give me a better mouth to nose ratio?
