Mouthwear- Late stages of puberty

I am 17 and i have a short mandible and slight overbite. I want to consult an orthodontist about it. I've looked into different types of mouth gear and have my eyes on one called the Herbst appliance. I'm aware that I am in the last stages of puberty and that there may not be any room for growth, but I have looked into many post-puberty patients who have had somewhat noticeable results. I want to bring this up and discuss it with my orthodontist. However, it feels odd recommending myself it when he is the actual doctor. So I ask: how do I bring it up? I also would like to know if there are any other mouth-wear that would accomplish the same thing.

Just tell your orthodontist you've read about it and ask if it's an option for you. If he's not an idiot he should appreciate the question. It's not like you're begging him, you're just asking (yeah it has to be a question). The same way some people show photos of others when they go get a haircut.

I know there are other mouth-wear/appliances but I don't have enough knowledge to recommend or bring up any.
