Whilst it's been determined that inability to activate the Wnt/Beta Catenin signalling pathway through "Frizzled" receptor agonism is the underlying and predominant reason for Male Pattern Balding; it's recently been discovered that the JAK-STAT pathway also plays a role in regulating phases of the hair cycle. It's currently theorized that JAK inhibitors can delay transitions from the Anagen -> Catagen phases of the cycle, allowing more time for potential growth activity in the Anagen phase. Previously it was thought that sm04554 worked as a hair cycle phase delayant until Samumed released the real mechanism of how sm04554 works in activating the Wnt/Beta Catenin Pathway.

JAK inhibitors however could extend the time you spend in the Anagen phase.
