What should I say to the orthodontist? I know that I have a narrow palate and my primary motivation is breathing, so thats easy to discuss. but i dont know if i should bring up aesthetics other than a wider smile? is it reasonable to say that I'm looking to get a wider midface? also should I ask that we go for the maximum expansion appropriate to my face?

Don't bring up anesthetics, if anything bring up more reasons why mse is better medically than a normal palate expander

thanks bro. breathing is all I can think of. I think thats ok though, the orthodontist is recommended by the guy who invented MSE and he seems pretty enthusiastic about it from his email so considering I do have a crossbite and breathing issues it shouldnt be hard to convince him to actually do it. I'm mainly concerned that he will only do the minimum needed for the bite and then I wont see any aesthetic improvement (other than broader smile) or even breathing benefits. he mentioned in the email that breathing benefits couldnt be guaranteed

"has a special interest in the use of MSE appliances and the benefits they have on expansion of the upper jaw. It can sometimes help with tongue posture, snoring and nasal breathing but can never be fully guaranteed." this is what they said

tell him that you are paying for it anyways and that you should be able to get how every much expansion possible

You can bring up aesthetics but focus more on talking about broadening the smile rather than mentioning midfacial changes.

thanks mate. yeah that seems the best way to go. he mentioned widening the jaw explicitly in his email, rather than just broadening the smile, so I guess referring to that would be a good way to ensure proper facial expansion without explicitly referencing midface etc. most of what im gonna talk about is probably breathign tbh
