I agree with the torture part. It's unnecessary to torture animals, rather than instantly killing them.
The Indian diet is a let down (unless you're omnivorous). Ever since society was established, the rich always hunted for and ate meat. You don't need carbohydrates to survive at all, it's supposed to be a supplementary source of food. The peasants(poor) ate only carb rich veggies with fats which is a dangerous combo, that's why they had the highest death rates and not the aristocrats, before. Just eat lots of fat and protein (with some fiber if you prefer) although there really is no solid evidence for fiber being useful or important for digestion.
