If you go to Morocco which is one of the closest muslim majority countries to the western world for example you will see that a lot of the girls, i would say maybe 65-70% wear the Hijab, but Allah Knows Best

I recognize that the Emevi Caliphate was one of the most superrior but you can't deny that it lasted short. Abbasids lasted longer but for quite a time they where protected by Turkish states.
