After discovering orthotropics, I needed to check if there was any expansion that I could get at my age (18, born 4th of may 2002). I contacted Mike Mew by email and he told me to go to the only orthotropic clinic in my country (I'm portuguese, living in Lisbon). It was in the suburbs of the city so it was a drive of about 45 minutes.
Getting there, I met a Polish dentist who had only treated patient in her life with Orthotropics: her own daughter. I had been trying to mew for a few months by then but was unable, so i told her that perhaps an appliance (palate expander) would be handy. She was very skeptical. She had treated her daughter quite successfully. This girl had quite a recessed chin, due to mouth breathing, and now she looks fantastic after 3 years of treatment (she started at 8, she's now 11).
She is unsure that mewing will bring any results to me as a late teen, and is afraid of being sued by fucking up my teeth via palatal expansion by giving gaps in teeth, without any maxillary advancement.
I have a slight Class 3 malloclusion hidden by orthodontic treatment which changed the angle of my teeth a bit. My lower maxilla is ok, tbh, but im quite recessed on the upper maxilla, giving me an horse face look. That's me btw.
She recommended to have a consultation with mike mew to make sure that palate expansion to help me improve oral postures (precisely the treatment she did to her daughter) was worth it. The consultation costed 225 pounds (quite expensive tbh), and it lasted for like 30 minutes.
Mike mew said that if I worked hard I could expect a maxillary expansion. He also recommended miofunctional therapy (tongue and mouth posture) and functional patterns (body posture). However the big worry is the gaps that the biobloc expansion will cause in my teeth. Severe diastema may be a risk that may need to be solved with veeners and composites. This makes me quite nervous.
I'm now also aware that MSE is an option and that only that is able to give me a midface expansion, and that biobloc is only dental. However, perhaps mewing +biobloc will give me that same effect.
