I have severe Pectus Excavatum which impacts both my looks and physical ability.
It feels like an elephant is standing on my chest at all times.
Severity is measured with the Haller index, dividing the width of the chest inside the rib cage by the shortest distance between the sternum and spine.
When I was 15 I had a scan showing my Haller index was 3.15, surgery required it to be 3.25. I was distraught because I already knew it was over if I didn't hardmax.
A few months ago (at 17) I had an MRI, showing I have a Haller index of nearly 6 which was an insane increase.
(to put it in perspective)
Here, you can see that my cold truecel heart is compressed and shifted out of place.
I also have a reduced lung capacity and compressed liver.
Due to this, I was certainly getting surgery.
I will have a metal bar put in my chest.
Subsequently, the bar will be flipped around to raise the chest.
Where it will stay for 3 years before being taken out.
Results should look like this. The before is similar to me now, though I don't have gyno.
Recovery is quite painful but I'm pretty sure I get opioids for that.
I was going to have this surgery about 3 months from now but since lost time is never found again, I called around and now have a surgical date in 2 months.
