So I began noporn about a week ago, after failing nofap over and over. Most of my successful nofap streaks began with noporn, and for good reason. I feel like when you go straight from binging porn to nofap, the strong connection between "I think I'm horny" and "I need to watch porn" is still there. Basically, when you get an urge to fap, you also get an urge to watch porn. Fapping without porn for a while and then doing nofap is much easier.
Anyway, the first change to happen immediately was that my sleep went to shit. Absolute trash. Obviously it makes sense, when you tie fapping to porn directly into your bedtime routine, you body will freak out when you suddenly stop. I always thought that as long as you just go to bed and wake up at the same time every night, without interfering by using your phone or other technology, you'd automatically get a good rhythm and stay asleep, but I guess that takes some time.
Basically, I'd go to bed at the same time every night 9 hours before wakeup time. I wouldn't use the phone at all during those 9 hours, only turn the screen on to check the time whenever I woke up. I fall asleep just fine, then wake up within 1-2 hours. At that point, it would take another 50 minutes-2 hours to fall back asleep, then I'd sleep for 1 and a half to 3 hours, and wake up again. Then it'd usually take between 1 and a half and THREE hours to fall back asleep. So in a 9 hour window, I think I averaged about 4-5 hours sleep. Depressing.
But tonight, I think I managed to get about 6-7 hours sleep. Huge improvement. And I noticed that I had really, really good focus today. I was reading something that I before would have kept losing track of what I had read, getting distracted, getting demotivated while reading, reading but not remembering a paragraph but then not remembering a single word I had read, but today, that didn't happen. I read 3 hours effectively today, (with short breaks of course), and I'm really happy that my focus is back.
When I was fapping to porn every day, and also got a decent nights sleep (or, as decent as you can get while fapping right before going to bed), I didn't have focus this good.
If you're having trouble maintaining focus for extended periods of time, give noporn a shot. Next goal is nofap, but I think I'll aim for that after I can actually sleep more than 5 hours consecutively without waking up.
