your nose shape is not “nose genetics”. It’s shaped by the way your maxilla projects.
The nasal bones and cartilage sit on the maxilla like a roof on a house.
I will show you different examples with morphs while learning you on how the maxilla shaped them. These morphs aren't always 1:1 with real life facial development but they're just here to give you a clear visual idea of how maxilla influences the nose directly.
Lets take Gandy as an example, he has a hooked nose ''characterized by a prominent nasal bridge that curves downward, often featuring a drooping tip''
The Hooked nose is caused by a maxilla that has better upper projection relative to lower maxilla projection, the upper maxilla causes a forward nasal bridge , while a RELATIVE weaker lower maxilla fails to support the tip properly → tip drops = hooked nose
more lower maxilla = upward tip rotation & straighter nose for Gandy.
The forward push supports the forward grown nosebridge caused by the upper maxilla.
Thats why people who do DJS (moving the lefort 1 area forward which gets them more lower maxilla projection) go from hooked to straight noses or from straight to upturned.
This makes it easy to understand for every nose type.
Upturned nose = Better lower maxilla then upper maxilla. Lets see what happens if we give chico more upper maxilla projection but keep his lower maxilla the same
And if we give gandy less upper maxilla projection but keep his lower maxilla the same
A straight nose (theoretically almost all noses arent 100% fully straight, but i mean visually ''straight'') can happen with any kind of maxilla, it just needs equal/balanced projection. The thing that does change is the angle of the tip if the maxilla becomes more forward.
Here we have 2 different types of ''straight'' (yes i know they might not be Pin straight) but in motion/real life they would be seen as straight.
The first one is from a user who put his side profile on org. His maxilla is recessed, you can see this by looking at the recessed nose bridge and downturned tip. But because all the parts are about equaly recessed the nose still looks straight rather then hooked or upturned.
The second one is my nose, taken from the exact same angle as the first one (a perfect staight side profile picture with a camera on arm lenght distance, no tilted angles or anything)
i would be considerd extremely forward grown, maybe top 0.1% in the current western world.
As you can see, both noses are about straight. But the nose supported by the recessed maxilla has a downturned tip and a recessed nose bridge. Meanwhile my nose who sits on an extremely forward grown maxilla has an upturned tip and a forward grown nose bridge. Still both noses would be considerd ''straight'' in real life.
Of course there are many more factors that can influence nose shape, such as downward growth. Ofcourse ''nose genetics'' might also have some influence, but less then most people think. Sadly explaining everything would make this thread too long.
