The Jews say, “Ezra is the son of Allah,” while the Christians say, “The Messiah is the son of Allah.” Such are their baseless assertions, only parroting the words of earlier disbelievers. May Allah condemn them! How can they be deluded ˹from the truth˺?

Prophet Muhammad claims that the Jews worshipped Ezra.

One common defection I've read about is that he was talking about some small sect of Jews but this is again proven to be false in sahih Muslim 1 Hadith 352 that was referring not some small sect but all Jews

1000181535

No convincing explanation for this by any muslim scholar so far. The only arguments are the first one that he was talking small sect proven to be false. Some argue it refers to extreme veneration not literal belief and the third belief that existed but disappeared and then some argue it's translation or word of play. All mostly deflections. No clear cut explanation for this so far.

And this is condemning all Jews of burning in hell because they worshipped Ezra but there is like
0 proof they ever did. It isn't just a small oopsie and still remains one of the biggest contradictions in Islam alongside crucifixion and identification of Mary.

The Quran claims Jews worshipped Ezra as God's son, but literally no kikes group ever, in all of history, actually believed this. Islamic scholars have been doing damage control for centuries, saying "uhhh it was probably some tiny sect in Arabia that's gone now," but even they admit there's zero evidence these people existed. Recently some academics have thrown out theories that maybe there was confusion with a rabbi named Eliezer who got called "My son" in Jewish texts, or maybe they mixed him up with some angel lore going around back then. :):):):):):):) :):):):):):):):):):):):):):)

The verse is criticising an exaggerated and exalted view the Jews had of Ezra, not literally saying that Jews believed he was the son of God.

9:31 (which is the next verse) and the associated Hadith with it show how Islam views making someone a supreme lawgiver is a form of ascribing divinity

Anyways…even if this wasn’t the case…criticising a small sect of Jews for doing it is hardly a contradiction?

You can take a verse from when the era it was sent down

And you can take the same verse now

And it’s the same

Is that not proof?

It has already been rejected by W. Montgomery Watt, Michael Cook and all the western and Jewish scholars who studied early Islam and Late Antiquity everyone except islamic apologists like @1966Ford said.

There's just no proof of it at all. The only thing that has slight possibility is that it was a small forgotten sect in Arabia at the time but that is something you can claim for anything.

Uhm, I don’t think any of the people you mentioned specifically said “No, the Jews did not elevate Ezra and give him a special, higher status” which is what the Quran is saying…?

It's a critique the excessive veneration or exaggerated reverence that (some) Jews showed toward Ezra, elevating him to a status that bordered on or amounted to associating partners with God.

Jews used very exaggerated language in praising him sometimes calling him a "second Moses"

Mohammed (police be upon him) often got “revelations” as he needed, he also couldn’t read or write and thought Satan was attacking him, so you’ve already lost here but I’ll add too, the Quran as presented is based off “he said she said” from what was took hundreds of years after he died, all Islam is a monotheist creation of combing all the nearby Arab pagan religions and stuff from Judaism and ofc Christianity into one, doesn’t mean it’s right, pagan Arabs already used the kabba for rituals too

I've already all read all these arguments and articles while researching this topic. Nothing got debunked. It remains as is one of the biggest contradictions and something only Muslim apologists contests and no one else accepts.

There's not a single ounce of proof of it outside of the Hadith and Quran but since Quran is a self authenticating revelation it doesn't need any external proof to muslims so they believe it.

I’m not the most religious but even anyone with above average Somali IQ can tell Jesus was a better person then Mohammed, Jesus did his miracles and such, when Mohammed was asked to do stuff he never could
Also why would Allah protect Jesus and send some imposter on the cross, but let Mohammed be poisoned to death
Another funny surah is after Mo died, people form his crew went to to his tomb to see if he would resserect like Jesus only for nothing to happen

name one miracle Mohammed performed besides “splitting the moon” cus only an inbred fcuk would belive that, yall also copy him way more than Christians copy Jesus, Christians like to do things like respect their neighbors, Muslims do things like copy how Mohamed ate, drank, and even how he used the bathroom, very weird

im so educated myself about this stuff but as a counter i could easily say that the bibleisnt real because its been changed many many times and it has many yes many contradictions its honestly crazy how one contradiction you find is enough to say islam isnt real and honestly im sure its not even a contradiction where is it proven or written that there wasnt a group of jews worshiping ezra?
(Quran 9:31). In other words, Jews venerated Ezra so much that it was as if he were a god to them.4]
An explanation given by Muslim scholars from the time of al-Jāḥiẓ and al-Ṭabarī (d. 923) was that this belief had, in fact, been held by a group of Jews in Arabia, but that this sect had died out.
