No convincing explanation for this by any muslim scholar so far. The only arguments are the first one that he was talking small sect proven to be false. Some argue it refers to extreme veneration not literal belief and the third belief that existed but disappeared and then some argue it's translation or word of play. All mostly deflections. No clear cut explanation for this so far.

And this is condemning all Jews of burning in hell because they worshipped Ezra but there is like

Sorry to be blunt but if the criteria is "sources outside of Islamic sources" need to verify it, then technically it can exist, a claim doesn't need bulletproof outsider observance proof.

Late antique Arabia is not a fully documented world. A weird local belief could have existed without leaving a neat paper trail.

Many early Christian sects existed but we have zero proof because Pauline Christianity dominated and wiped everything else out, same with early Jewish sects and especially niche Jewish sects deep in the Arabian desert. Many Jewish sects were Christian-Jewish hybrid before they were wiped out too.

Many claims in the Bible have weak evidence from outside observation too. For example the only contemporary crucifixion evidence comes from the Christian sources, and the earliest Roman evidence is almost a 100 years later (Tacitus), not contemporary, by which point could have been mimicking rumors from the Greek and Judean Christian community in the Empire.

Another point to note, is that Arabic is very sarcastic or hyperbolic language. When they mean all or every, they may actually mean something smaller in actuality. Semitic and scriptural polemic often attributes a statement to a community via a representative faction, spokesperson, or dominant controversy, without meaning every individual member literally said it.

Even though this isn't the smoking gun for me. I still believe Islam was created by early Ummayads to centralize authority. The name Muhammad was very uncommon at the time and his descriptions seem too artificial to be a real person in my opinion.

In Moed Katan 3:1 of the Jerusalem Talmud, the Bat Kol ("Voice of God") refers to Rabbi Eliezer Ha Gadol as 'My son' while affirming his legal position:

"There came an unembodied voice and said, practice follows My son Eliezer."

This clearly shows that there was a figure in Jewish tradition, with a name that has scholarly backing as being related to Uzayr, that, from the Jewish perspective, God considered to be a "son".

Furthermore, it is morpholigcally possible to consider the name "Al-Uzayr", in Arabic, to be a tasgheer (diminutive) of the name "Al Ezier" or "Eliezer." Ibn (son) becomes Bunay (little son). Kitab (book) becomes Kutayyib (little book/booklet). Hasan becomes Husayn (younger, or little, Hasan). If this is true, then Uzayr (little Eliezer) contrasts nicely with the name Eliezer Ha Gadol, since Ha Gadol means "the Great" in Hebrew.

If you read the next verse in the Quran after the verse about Uzayr, it reads (Mustafa Khattab translation):

They have taken their rabbis and monks as well as the Messiah, son of Mary, as lords besides Allah, even though they were commanded to worship none but One God. There is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Him. Glorified is He above what they associate ˹with Him˺! [Quran 9:31]

If this verse is directly connected to the verse prior, then that would serve as evidence that perhaps Uzayr was in fact a Jewish rabbi, and, not, as is commonly said, Ezra the Scribe.
