opinion on braces?

what are your opinions on braces? when should you get them? do they cause recession in your maxilla/mandible? is it only the bands that cause recession? is fixing a midline/ asymmetrical bite ok? i’ve seen a lot of opinions and haven’t really understood which ones are correct.

Braces pull back your maxilla and make you further recessed, don't do it

They barely recess the maxilla and they have more aesthetic benefits than downsides. Only .org conspiracy theorists think they’re a bad thing.

They won’t harm aesthetics, if you were ugly before braces you’ll be ugly after braces. If you looked good before braces you’ll look good after them. The face for the most part doesn’t change.
