I'll be having an appointment on the 25th of March with my Orthodontist to discuss treatment options for my narrow palate, I have been thinking of getting the simple treatment of a marpe expander and headgear afterwards.

The traditional marpe expander
I believe it'll help me get undereye support which would hopefully lead to me getting a better canthal tilt even though it's mainly directed at expansion of the maxillary bone. I'm aware it'll affect my midface including my Zygomatic bones because the upper jaw is connected to your midface as well as my nose which is already bulbous:(.

How wide is your pallet? You can just measure in millimeters.

Orthodontics wont help your eye area, it'll only help the midface and maybe your mandible

if ur palate is 3mm then it will probably make noticeable changes once expanded

They still haven't told me even though I've had my X-ray done:cautious:
You can measure it manually I just did today
It’s not gonna be extremely accurate, but you can get a rough estimate what I found is a AA battery is 50 mm long if you don’t have a millimeter rulerso all you gotta do is just bite down on Styrofoam and measure your first inner molar distance to the other one and however, many millimeters that is, that’s how wide your pallet is. It’s not extremely accurate but it’s a rough estimate. It’ll be in 3 to 2 mm range. Of what your actual pallet is if you want to test it.

I'll probably reply to you once I have the appointment and I get told how wide it is but I don't think it's 3mm wide bro
yea so dont expect a crazy change from the expansion

It's a guy on tiktok who has documented his experience with marpe
oh yes i know him, i havent really paid much atttention to his content though

Alright I'll try to find some styrofoam

Yeah, it’s perfect. It leaves like the best indentation. The best would be wax.
But just follow this guide for your teeth
Wherever the distance is between, that is how wide your pallet is just to be sure by down very hard on the Styrofoam to leave a good indentation

MSE could very much improve eye area, it is designed to widen the upper jaw (maxilla). And because the maxilla forms part of the floor of the eye sockets (orbits) and supports the midface, expanding it can influence the under-eye and cheek area.

It can increase midface projection give it a less sunken look under the eyes, but it will also widen the nasal base so it can give you a bigger nose.
If you are recessed or/and have poor Zygo and Chin projection MSE (or any palate expander) can actually help a lot even on adults.

Will do tysm
Yeah, what I found is like a Chick-fil-A cup works good cause it’s soft and you can cut whatever you want so if you have a Chick-fil-A cup, just grab it and bite down as hard as you can

Damn man idk if there's even a Chick-fil-A in my country

Idk who to listen to now

Just do it, if eye area is not the main concern than it is totally fine.

If you are recessed, like mentioned before, MSE is a must and will help you widen your palate, and by doing that it will also give you several other beneficial effects.

Yeah it’s all good. Just find a good soft foam like that. My pallet measured 44 millimeters. That may be one to 2 mm off but close enough I went to the doctors office today. I low-key don’t have very good dental health anyway it could be even wider than that but my teeth are kind of going sideways like inside of my mouth because bad dental health. I’m low-key gonna fix it, but I don’t have a bad pallet at all, but I also have an impacted tooth from the bottom of my jaw which causing my face to bloat as long as that distance by the is under 32 mm. You have significantly increased the risk of getting it pal expander for free not for free obviously if it’s just 32 mm but if it is under that and there’s like a sideways bite or something else as long as you’ve got I’m pretty sure 26 points you get it for free but if not, it’s like 1K

I'm so lucky I'm in the UK otherwise I'd have to pay so much just for that, and I'm pretty sure what you have is called a crossbite I have it too and I was so lucky to be blessed with both a crossbite and an overbite, I have a crowding problem in my teeth too which is why I'm getting the appliances but I'm pretty excited to see what my orthodontist with propose.

Just from a quick research:

MSE- effects:
  • Slightly widen the midface
  • Improve support under the eyes
  • Broaden smile arc
  • Increase cheekbone width subtly
  • Expands the upper jaw bone (true skeletal widening)
  • Fixes narrow palate / crossbite
  • Can improve nasal breathing
  • Creates space for crowded teeth

"Bad" effects:
  • Gum irritation or recession near the mini-implants
  • Tooth tipping if the appliance is not properly placed
  • Loosening of teeth in rare cases
  • Pain or pressure during expansion
  • Minor bone remodeling discomfort
  • Slight risk of asymmetry if expansion is uneven
  • Bigger nasal base

It's pretty close to being my main concern but my actual concern is asymmetry which I think the appliances would indirectly fix.

I would say you shouldn´t get hopes up too high.
It´s pretty common for Orthodontists to start you on a less abrasive treatment like a clear palate expander/invisalign palate expander or something like that, maybe they will tell you to remove your Wisdom teeth if you have not done that yet.

If you really want MSE with MARPE be clear and direct, they will try to recommend you on other stuff or methods just reject or try to steer the conversation to the MSE matter.

But I don´t really know your case or have seen how bad/good your situation is, so they actually could just give you the MSE as the starter if is really bad.

I'll probably be fine, the first time my Orthodontist examined the inside of my mouth he was the one to bring up MSE/Maxillary Expanders so my situation could be bad just because of that and the invisalign doesn't seem like an option as of now but I'll update you as soon as I can.
