Based on the British Orthodontic Society system and the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need.
Dental Health Component (DHC) — how serious it is
• Grade 5 → very serious → almost always accepted
• Grade 4 → strong need → usually accepted
• Grade 3 → borderline → depends on case
• Grade 2 → mild → mostly cosmetic
• Grade 1 → very small issue
Aesthetic Component (AC) — how noticeable it looks
• 1–4 → small
• 5–7 → noticeable
• 8–10 → severe
