What's the difference between this
LeFort 3 distraction

versus a normal Lefort 3 osteotomy? I know it's meant for deformed patients, but is it safer?

Osteotomies are held together by bone grafts and titanium plates, which hold the broken and rearranged bones together for fusion. DO is much more natural. You don't need plates or grafts because the gap is slowly distracted allowing new bone to generate. DO can produce greater projection than osteotomies can.
