Palate Expander ?

I’m going to go and get braces really soon, mainly to fix my really bad overbite. I wanted to see if I should talk to my orthodontist about getting a palate expander. I don’t want to have a super wide face and look uncanny, so I wanted to get some other opinions on if i need it or not. Will it make me look better ?
