It wont really work because they can telll if your pallete is wide or narrow so if its moderate or if you dont have a bite problem they wont prescribe

im 15 but i study about those things, actually i remodeled my bonestructure and got a better maxila bone, but i dont projected maxila so i only got a less plane maxila, and my palate is still a bit narrow, but changing subject, ask for your orthodontist for an xray, so he can see how much space your nasal airway(idk the name), if you get a compact one like me it will help alot, after that show him an study about the necessity for expand narrow palates whit MARPE and all the problems that a narrow palate causes.
