But what Beckham was, in addition to being a top player, was a celebrity. He courted the media, enjoyed the limelight, married a pop star and got involved in fashion etc. All this elevated his status. He knew how to talk and his chad looks was something that English media could market so he became the poster boy for england while scholes was just a side character he wasn't as charismatic, he wasn't as involved with the british media. Amazing take he was the engine of some the best English teams of all time. Even when he retired and came outta retirement the following season he was still amazing.
