I understand if you want to get a new car. But people will sit here and cope by buying a lets say crossover like a Toyota Rav4 for 40K, with 5K down, and a 500$ payment + 100 insurance

Then tell me at work that they didn't want to buy a 2005 Toyota 4Runner or Corolla with 40K miles, because since its old the maintenance would be too much.

BITCH! Nobody on earth is paying 600$ a month on maintenance on an old car unless its a barn find that hasn't been driven in 30 years.

I drive a 2001 4runner, with 372K miles, been driving it since 2015 since my mom gave it to me after she upgraded. And in 10 years, I've spent maybe 3K on it including oil changes, tires, and a rare occasion when my AC broke after being deployed for 4 months when it wasn't being driven.

Anyone who has a car note yet complains about money needs to shut the fuck up and never speak again.

Absolutely insane, people underestimate how a simple oil change on time will extend the life of your vehicle. I have only ever purchased cash cars. And my 2001 4runner is the newest vehicle I have.

I have an 85 Celica Supra and 81 Corona, and they have had ZERO issues, and I attibute that to timely oil changes

That's why we only buy vehicles we can actually afford. So much nicer to actually own a car and only worry about maintenance and repairs as needed than have to be in debt over a new car. Besides that, most new cars are built worse and have too much tech. Biggest thing as long as the car is mechanically sound is to make sure it isn't rusted underneath, as lots of used cars look fine but are too far gone in terms of the frame

Yeah, especially daily drivers, I understand having a weekend rider, I do myself, but it was purchased in full.

Yeah, my supra gets maybe 29MPG it seems like, my 4runner though eats gass like crazy, like 12-15mpg, I fill up twice a week and have a 1hr commute

Oil changes are very important. So many idiots neglect the hell out of it and then complain when it breaks down. I get mine done every 5k miles or less on my pickup because I want it to last. On my mom's suv it's changed every 2k or so because it's a little turbo engine that has more stress than my truck engine and also is mostly driven in the city with lots of short trips which makes the oil break down faster. If the oil on any vehicle starts looking too dark for my liking, it gets changed regardless of mileage. 5k miles is a good rule of thumb, but certain driving conditions can cause it to need it sooner. I always check the dipstick every few weeks to make sure it's not low on oil too.

I need a truck that's heavy duty and 4x4 with my use, but what I have is one thats 10+ years ago with around 70k miles instead of a crazy expensive pavement princess. It's got a scraped up passenger side from when someone did a hit and run (police were of no help), and the driver's side has light damage from when a deer ran into it so it's not something I'm afraid to use like a truck. Most of the people with the brand new fancy ones don't even take them off paved roads or haul anything

Daily driving a truck is pretty fun, and I use it often enough for hauling stuff that it beats the hassle and cost of renting one. Besides that, having a proper 4wd comes in handy a lot for snow and similar situations
