Preventing balding with minoxidil, finasteride, dutasteride

Not currently balding since I’m only 16 but I’ve been told I have a receding hairline which isn’t really true but my dads bald and I don’t want to lose my hair and it seems hella simple to prevent it so why not. It seems like I shouldn’t take finasteride or dutasteride for another year or two because you want DHT during puberty but minoxidil I can take now. If anyone has advice on this because I’m thinking if I start taking it now then I will never go bald. I heard if you take it then you gotta take it for the rest of your life cuz once you stop you lose your hair if you’re supposed to be balding. If I were to take it to prevent is there a way to check if what I’m doing is useless cuz I’m not balding or if it’s the only things saving me. Any advice helps.
