He's wrong with that tho, partially at least. It can be argued that morality is the impulse of self-preservation and development of peoples through descent and that morality has revolved around these principles in environments more or less favorable to life.

That's still an universal law just without God. It's called the "conatus". It should be explained with biology and psychology tho.
