Any maxillofacial surgeon can do an excellent job with the correct implants. Facial custom-implant surgery is a relatively simple procedure for any reputable and professional maxillofacial surgeon.

The typical problem or issues that patients have aren't health-related but incompetent aesthetic results.

You don't see many doctors offering custom implants because they don't have direct working relationships with implant manufacturers.

If you spent time designing the perfect look for yourself, you would help your doctor get the exact look you want. Doctors are doctors, NOT aesthetic experts or implant designers!!

There are many materials your doctor could use for your implants. However, for most aesthetic purposes, UHMWPE and PEEK are the ONLY two materials you'd likely want. All materials have pros and cons, but when you compare them all at length, these two are the better options.

Implants alone DO NOT cause "resorption" of any bones.

PEEK, (UHMWPE), Medpore, titanium, Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), or even Silicon implants do not cause resorption of the bone. Bone resorption occurs when friction and movement from your muscles press on the implant and rub against your bones.

These implants last 1000 years.

The rubbing produces a sanding-off effect on the bone. Solid materials like PEEK, and UHMWPE, when fixed well (screwed), do not move, and that doesn't damage your bones.

The term bone resorption has become popular due to problematic silicone implants. Silicon is flexible and unstable, and when your muscles press against it, it causes the bone to deteriorate - it is not the chemical composition of the implant itself but the force and friction on the bones themselves.

You will not have surgery in some back street or dark alley. First, you would have to meet your surgeon in any country, and most surgeons abide by international norms and practices.

The poorest countries have rich and top-world regions and access to the best medical assistance.

So, I wouldn't call them dangers but inconveniences.

You see, there are things you must consider before you decide to go for a sliding genioplasty.

It is permanent, limited, "more complicated," and more painful in the sense that you must do it intraorally.

Also, I wouldn't say I like the intraoral method too much because there's a small risk of getting the "sleepy lip syndrome."

It is "limited" because if you have a round chin, you will continue to have a rounded chin but more forward projection.

A chin implant is fast, "safer," and you can adjust it if you don't like the look you get.

I guess it comes down to deciding what works best for you.

Sliding genioplasty makes a lot of sense a lot of the time, though.

I'll tell you this; my surgeon and I decided to do an implant after we talked and analyzed the possibilities for months off and on.
