Assuming you work at somewhere prestigious currently, how did you differentiate yourself from other candidates for your position?
Currently, I am:
I think stuff like LinkedIn connections are a numbers game to acquire some sort of prestige through having 500+ connections (none of which you'd really ever take advantage of), I think that type of thing is superficial and it is implicit that if you must connect with a wide range of people to try and acquire some prestige, you are a midwit.
With that being said, is it actually important to treat LinkedIn like the numbers game that others do? Did you ever get the opportunity to take advantage of a menial connection you previously thought to be meaningless?
Did you ever have some sort of individual endeavour that proved valuable in differentiating you as a candidate? If so (being considerate of your anonymity), what was it?
If you are not in Banking/Finance but might have something you did that is universally applicable, please share it also.
Thanks for any replies

Currently, I am:
- One of the top students for my specific university degree, potentially #1 for all undergrads. I go to one of the top universities in Australia (though Australian universities seem to not carry much esteem).
- Involved and have senior positions in university co-curriculars/institutions directly related to banking.
