The sub should be renamed r/placebo&nocebo instead.

Go on the front page, see the most hot posts of the week, first one has 300 updoots titled "l-tyrosine changed my life", you start reading it and bro is saying how he took 1g tyrosine in the morning, felt a mild euphoria all over his body, raging bonners, super charged motivation.

Then you see a thread maybe 3 posts bellow the previous one of someone saying how he took 1g tyrosine and got tachycardia, very high blood pressure, and panic attacks etc.

You start scrolling further into the madness
getting to a thread titled "3 days of dosing vitamin D3 and i got anhedonia for 1 month now"

Brushing your sanity off you keep going further only to stumble upon a thread where a guy become asexual from eating 2 teaspoons of peanut butter

Then you go to see the nocebo parts like someone taking bromantane and not feeling anything, a potent compound that works on the epigentic level of dopamine synthesis (although nocebo cases could theoretically be real)

Tales from Skopje

Read Ray Peat's books(and other similar authors who specialize in nutrition and supplements) and it's pretty much the same crazy stories - he alternates between feeling like a god and being bedridden, having all the possible illnesses and almost dying. Then he takes some supplement and is magically cured like nothing happened. Then later, he takes some other supplement or food and gets really sick again and proclaims that supplement as being absolute poison.
His forum is also filled with similar contradictory reports, wild tales and has a very cultish atmosphere.

The only one that ever worked for me was the caffeine + L Theanine combo

Zinc+Copper supplements helps my skin clear for some reason but it’s not essential for daily life

Other shit is all dependant on blood work and seeing if you have specific deficiencies that need to be corrected but it seems most people on that reddit are too lazy to get blood work done but retarded enough to stuff their face full of random compounds. It is retarded.

I haven't read his book, but most of what he is saying from what ive read on the forum is legit, especially the seratonin stuff. And can you give an example about what made him bedridden and what made him feel like a God? Some "supplements" are absolutely possible of doing this.

The thing with r/nootropic is how they take absolutely benign supplements and get some wild effects which are clearly placebo.

People there take otc 50yo karen mom tier supps and claim they become superman, its cageful. Ofcourse there are actual real nootropics that can be profound, but they are almost always the risky and prescription only dementia/parkinsons/cancer drugs

Well strictly for iq maybe, cause iq is too hard coded genetically after a certain age. But there are definitely noots that increase memory, concentration, mood etc. But most of the time they are the hardcore dementia and parkinsons drugs

Its basically the best nootropic, literally ideal. Technically dexedrine or meth is better possibly. Its the only thing thats absolutely not a placebo, has immediate obvious effects, starts withva pleasent blood pump in your body, you feel the rush going in your brain, you feel ready to conquer the day, its not forced either, like you could play games all day on it, or be productive all day, also works on safe neurotransmitters like dopamine and norepinephrine ina primitive simple manner, once you quite tolerance drops quickly cause dopamine is recycled very fast etc. I don't find it addictive for hedonism, but for productivity its definitely addicting, you are simply much more efficient on it. I enjoy the breaks from it cause i feel like me again, feel love, food tastes good, sleep early, more flexible in time management (amphetamine can make you be fixed on something for hours without you realizing it).

doesn’t it sounds too good to be true though? Like it must have some drawback too if its so good

It fucks up your sleep if you take it too late in the day, but that’s about it really.

no disrespect to peat he was a genius but reading stuff like this always made me laugh

Dr. Peat had an allergic reaction to bacon cured with celery juice. His prior higher vegetable diet led to spasms of the vocal cords- spastic dystonia, it was only 20 years later when he drank celery juice that his vocal cords came back to normal.

In 1983, the ocean current called El Nino caused Oregon's weather to stay cloudy and rainy through the summer. I didn't have my usual summer recovery from "winter sickness," and by November I was becoming very sick. During a two week trip I felt perfectly well, but except for that short time I kept getting sicker and sicker (with inflammation of arteries, dental abscesses, asthma, migraines, and colitis). Lying in bed one day trying to understand what had happened during that two-week trip, I remembered that I had used the vitamin E containing a residue of pregnenolone on the trip, but used pure vitamin E after I got home. I immediately got out of bed and took a pinch of pregnenolone. In about an hour, all of my symptoms had stopped, and for over a week I was healthy and energetic. But then I got sick again, and was so distracted by the pain that it was several days before I remembered the pregnenolone. Another pinch had the same dramatic sudden effect. Since then I have taken some almost every day.

just take ritalin

For me number one is apetite destruction, i have zero desire to eat food, my mom is the reason i eat at all, if i was alone i would probably eat like 500 calories daily if left only by apetite to eat
Number two is sleep probably, but if you do hard excercise it shouldn't be a problem. Other stuff are dry mouth, it can go to a acidic type of taste if severe enough, but this is only if yoy haven't eaten carbs.Something else is you become somewhat apathetic, like your feelings are lower, its harder to feel sad or to feel alone. This can be good or bad
