1.1 Introduction to Randle cycle
1.2 how it’s activated
1.3 why it’s bad to activate it
I got lazy so fuck this
What is the randle cycle?
The Randle cycle describes the metabolic process of by which the body regulates the relative utilization of carbohydrates (glucose) and fats for energy production in response to nutrient availability and hormonal signals.
How is the randle cycle activated?
The Randle cycle is activated when both carbs (glucose) and fatty acids are available for energy. Because cells preferentially oxidize one fuel at a time, the presence of high levels of one substrate inhibits the utilization of the other. Specifically, increased fatty acid oxidation suppresses glucose oxidation by inhibiting key enzymes in glycolysis and the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex, while high glucose availability and insulin signaling inhibit fatty acid oxidation. This mechanism allows the body to efficiently switch between fuels depending on nutrient availability.
Why it's bad to constantly activate it
If you consistently continue to consume meals high in both fats & carbs then it will place a metabolic strain on the body, as it cannot efficiently oxidize both fuels simultaneously. This dual-substrate overload can impair cellular energy utilization and contribute to metabolic inflexibility, increasing the risk of insulin resistance and other metabolic dysfunctions
In what scenario is the it’s effects negligible?
The effect is negligible only when the pathway is appropriately regulated. But what does proper activation entail? In humans, this occurs naturally through the physiological patterns of nutrient availability and hormonal signaling that have evolved to optimize energy metabolism.
The way humans in nature used to activate the Randle cycle is.
- Seasonally
- Separate from fat
When were carbs consumed by primals
They’d only consume carbs when they were naturally available & they’d would never mix it with fat except if they have protein digestive enzymes (but that's a different topic)
Why is the randle cycle’s negatives negligible when consuming carbs alone
when you consume carbs that are sourced from fruits alone 3 things happen to you which are
But but glucose stays in your system for more than 3 days….
When you eat fruit (or any carbohydrate), glucose enters the bloodstream quickly and your body immediately responds by releasing insulin within minutes. In a health human’s blood glucose returns to baseline within less than 5 hours after glucose euphoria / carb consumption. Furthermore carb consumption is not even relevant to the Randle cycle…..
How it’s irrelevant to the randle cycle
The Randle cycle governs the competition between energy substrates in real time, rather than responding to lingering traces of glucose or fat accumulated over days.
Continuation
When you consume fruit in isolation, you supply your body with a singular, dominant fuel, glucose. In the absence of substantial LCFA, there is no meaningful substrate rivalry, and therefore the randle cycle remains largely dormant, if engaged at ALL.
Even if glycogen reserves remain saturated for hrs, or glucose is sequestered within tissues, the randle cycle is governed by the fuels actively present and competing in circulation at that moment, rather than by what has been previously stored.

I’m still a carnivore. What happened in a year bro you were the OG carnivore guy here
Oh really?I’m still a carnivore.
Yes. I’ve been a raw carnivore for 18 months now. I have made threads on the Randle Cycle and carbohydrates a year ago.Oh really?
Cool shi I’ve understood the Randle cycle since 9th grade basic shi they taught us in school, it’s a luxury compared to what other school teachYes. I’ve been a raw carnivore for 18 months now. I have made threads on the Randle Cycle and carbohydrates a year ago.

You obviously didn’t watch my video of me eating raw meat I didn’t, I just made an instant reply based off our interactions like a month ago. What made you change to raw meat?looksmax.org
The Randle Cycle specifically proves that we are in fact carnivores, not omnivores. Especially not vegans.Cool shi I’ve understood the Randle cycle since 9th grade basic shi they taught us in school, it’s a luxury compared to what other school teach

Thanks for lending me the honor of being the first post you reply to though
You da real og you got me off of grainsludgeI’m still a carnivore.
What do you consider as grainsludge? You da real og you got me off of grainsludge![]()
Any form of C*rb (sorry it's my trigger word) even if it isn't wheat based and not a grain necessarily it's still grainsludge to meWhat do you consider as grainsludge?
I used to think calories weren't a unit of heat @Never Get UpOh really?
Yeah that's why I tagged bro in the thread he schooled me last yearOh really?
