New rule regarding facial reconstructions​

Hi everyone! We have decided to change the rules regarding facial reconstructions. From now on, anyone posting their own self-made recons must provide proof to the moderators that they have professional experience in the field of forensic art. This means that at least one of your recons has been used/publicized before by a law enforcement agency, NamUs, or an officially established volunteer group like The Doe Network or the DNA Doe Project.
A facial reconstruction is one of the most important tools in identifying a John or Jane Doe. It’s going to be the first thing that comes to mind when people think about a Doe, and people often make decisions about how viable a potential match is based on how well the missing person compares to the recon. To do one properly, you need years of art experience and extensive knowledge of both human anatomy (at least as it relates to the face and head) and how postmortem changes and injuries can cause even subtle differences in a person’s appearance that you need to account for. These are things that require hundreds (thousands?) of hours of study to learn and become proficient in.
The other issue is that, oftentimes, certain aspects of a person’s appearance are left up to the artist’s discretion because they simply don’t have enough soft tissue to go off of. Particularly the eyes, lips, and tip of the nose. If so, these details could very well be inaccurate, and if someone is drawing from that recon to make their own new one (especially when they don’t have the relevant experience), they could easily end up with one that’s even more inaccurate than the first.
For these reasons, we believe that there is too much room for error and and too much potential to accidentally mislead (in the form of a bad recon) to keep allowing people to post their own work unless they have experience in this field. We understand everyone has to start somewhere, and we appreciate the time and effort that well-intentioned posters have put into making recons. But our primary goal on this sub is discussing and identifying John and Jane Does, and what happens on Reddit doesn’t stay on Reddit, and we don’t want to post something that could be wrong and (god forbid) have people overlook a match because so-and-so doesn’t look like a recon that was posted on Reddit and then reposted by someone else on another site like the Unidentified wikia without the disclaimer that the artist wasn’t qualified to do one.
I hope everyone will understand the reasoning for this new rule. Thanks for being such a great community and caring for these John and Jane Does who are too often overlooked.
Verification: In order to get the “Forensic Artist” flair, your work must be used at least once by law enforcement, a medical examiner’s office, or a volunteer organization like The Doe Network or the DNA Doe Project. Send us a modmail heresaying that you’re interested. The easiest way to verify is to email us using your professional email account (we will provide you with an address to email us at). If the recon was done by hand, you could also take a picture that includes both the original artwork and a sheet of paper that has your username and the date. If you want to prove you are a specific forensic artist and there are already photos of you available online, you can also take a selfie holding up a paper that has the username and date. If you’re not able to verify using these methods, please send us a message anyway. We can probably work something out.

I can still find out if the picture is fake or not it’s not that hard for any digital forensic examiner. Infact you could even find it and you don’t need a single software it’s all reverse image searching. And if that’s not even ought to em you can always examine the properties of the picture

Nah it's not that, redditors are seething over zoomers using AI to create facial reconstructions from corpses from unidentified bodies, and would prefer disturbing and uncanny sketches from trained forensic scientists to be the only ones used.
