The reason I believe he did things such as walk on water were the eyewitnesses who became the earliest Christians who were all persecuted by the Roman Empire and then beaten, tortured and then exectuted (which Jesus told his followers would happen to them). Not once did they admit they were lying, or that none of the things they claim to have seen happened. I just established that these people existed as even non-christians historians know that.

People have died for false beliefs throughout history. Just look at the followers of cults.

Aside from the gospels there is proof that Jesus existed (Tactitus the roman politician, Flavious a jew historian, and more) and really rose from the dead since he was seen for a period of 40 days after his execution which hundreds if not thousands of people saw.

The claim that 500 people saw Jesus comes from Paul (who never met Jesus), 20 years after the event.

Also, all the people who wrote the NT were Jesus's disciples who followed him, who all wrote more or less the same story. (The less having emphasis for different audiences).

Fine detail matters, and there are far too many contradictions in the gospels.
