Religion is born as a way to give lawless men morals and to answer their questions. Overtime it evolves to fit the narrative of the winners of history and powerful men by changing words, translations, etc etc. Anyone that hangs onto religion nowadays does it as a way to cope against the cruel world we live in.
Religion is useless.
Morals change based on the culture and people you hang with and should never be decided by the powerful. If you decided not to rope because of religion, you are a weak pathetic man that would've been too scared to do it.
Religious/modern people are told how to live, who to live for and what is right and wrong, that's the problem with society and the modern man. This whole forum is evidence that we are way too shaped by society than by our ideals.
Most people here will commit the worst crime of all, they'll waste their life. You believe in an order that is forced upon you to keep you good and at ease.

Calling religion a cope for suffering is very surface level, especially when actual religious devotion and dedication is far more harder than most people can handle and will always either just not follow their religion as deeply or just reject it, the average priest or dedicated religious man has far mroe conviction, ideals and free thinking to their personal beliefs compared to the average non-religious person

Also this doesnt even fit with most religions, christanity and abhramic religions in general are unique in the regard that they actively made converting populations and being universal as opposed to most pagan religions being heavily changed as time passed while also not being actively coherrent or having a universal structure that could expand outside of their tribes (look at how IE paganism evolved into norse paganism, roman paganism, greek paganism etc)

Judaism and Christianity steal the following from other religions:

1. The Flood Story - contained in the Epic of Gilgamesh and Atrahasis which were of obvious inspiration.
2. Creation Stories - the Enuma Elish is probably what the Genesis is based on according to scholars.
3. Garden of Eden - scholars argue that it's inspired by the Near Eatern motif of a sacred life-giving garden.
4. Angels and Demons - during n after the Babylonian Exile the jews came in contact with Zoroastrianism and it is believed that this period influenced their views on angles, demons and conflict between good and evil These ideas later on developed by themselves.
5. Satan - historians claim that the idea of Satan comes from Persian culture.
6. Resurrection and the Last Judgment - this belief appears relatively late in jewish history so it's believe that contact with the Persians, once again, influenced them heavily.
7. Virgin Birth - stories like these existed for thousand of centuries before Christianity and the story might be influenced by Egyptian or Greek myths.
8. Dying and rising of Gods - Jesus' story might've been influenced by the ones of Osiris and Tammuz. Also many older myths talk about resurrection (duh).
9. December 25th - Do I need to say anything? Wrong date influenced by other religions.
10. Christmas Traditions - obviously they have nothing to do with Christianity but this is kind of nitpicking.
11. Easter Traditions - once again, made later on based on european traditions.

Conclusion: Religions are constantly borrowing because that's all they are, borrowed beliefs.
