I always thought this was a retarded saying, especially for the time period it was popular in
In most scenarios if you can save two people the third shouldn't be that hard but for the sake of the argument why tf would you pick the female? If the man of the house dies who is going to provide for the family in a period where women weren't allowed or commonly worked, your family will starve?
This saying in the modern area basically from the get-go sees men as fodder despite it being us that hold up society, in this one city last year many female workers went on strike for equality and society functioned fine cause women do useless fucking jobs
I can understand dads wanting their children and wife to be prioritized but in the modern era the value of a man's life societal structure wise mogs the average female
