Scientists 'CURE autism' in mice using $3 epilepsy drug — in potential breakthrough

  • Researchers switched off MYT1L in mice and human nerve cells in the lab
  • Mice without MYT1L had brain abnormalities such as a thinner cerebral cortex
  • They also displayed autistic behavior including social deficits and hyperactivity

that $3 epilepsy drug is about to be removed from the market and reintroduced for $30,000

It may work in a few people but MYT1L is definitely not the primary cause of the huge increase in autism cases in the past decades.

I take this for 3 years. I don't have autism, but I do have depression. This drug is prescribed for depression at 200 mg/day, bipolar disorder and epilepsy. This is the only drug that has 0 side effects for me, except for some tongue-tip moments and mild memory problems. Other epileptic drugs, like Topamax, for example, will turn you into a brain-dead zombie.

It's also sometimes used for benzo withdrawal (same with lyrica and gabapentin, but they could cause facial bloat for some people, and your cognitive abilities will go shit on them, but they obviously lower inhibition, so it's 50/50 with them).

Lamotrigine lowers glutamate, preventing neurotoxicity if levels of glutamate are naturally high (or during benzo-alcohol withdrawal). It's a sigma receptor agonist as well (sigma receptor agonists were shown to produce antidepressant-like effects in mice, but these sigma agonistic effects on humans are still unclear).

I started with a low dose and am currently on 150 mg once a day and I think it's worth trying.
