In the quaint café nestled in the heart of the city, John found himself captivated by the graceful figure of a woman sitting alone at a corner table. Her auburn hair cascaded over her shoulders, framing a face that exuded an air of sophistication and mystery. With each sip of her coffee, she seemed lost in thought, a scene that intrigued John.

Summoning all his courage, John decided to approach her. His palms grew clammy as he rehearsed his introduction in his mind, his heart pounding in anticipation. With a deep breath, he made his way over to her table, his steps feeling heavier with each passing moment.

As he reached her table, the woman glanced up, her piercing gaze locking onto his. John felt a surge of nervous energy coursing through him as he cleared his throat and mustered the words to speak.

"Excuse me, miss," he began, his voice betraying his nerves. "I couldn't help but notice you from across the café, and I just had to come over and say hello."

The woman's expression remained impassive as she regarded him, her silence stretching on uncomfortably. John felt the weight of her scrutiny, his confidence waning with each passing second.

Finally, she spoke, her voice cool and detached. "And what exactly compelled you to disturb my solitude?"

John's cheeks flushed with embarrassment, but he pressed on, determined to make a connection. "I-I just thought... you looked interesting, and I wanted to get to know you."

A disdainful smirk played at the corners of the woman's lips as she leaned back in her chair, crossing her arms. "Interesting? Is that what you think? How utterly predictable."

The words stung, and John felt his confidence crumble beneath the weight of her derision. He searched for something, anything, to salvage the moment, but his mind drew a blank.

The woman's laughter rang out, sharp and mocking, drawing the attention of nearby patrons. "Do yourself a favor, darling," she said, her voice dripping with condescension. "Find someone more suited to your... level."

With that final barb, the woman turned away, dismissing John with a flick of her wrist. Humiliated and defeated, he stumbled away from her table, his cheeks burning with shame as the whispers of the café patrons followed him out the door.

Alone once more, John found solace in the anonymity of the bustling city streets, vowing never to let himself be so vulnerable again.
