Should I do a software developer degree?

Currently an engineering major but I don't like it and thinking to make a swap. Do you need to be high IQ? Don't want to be a FAANGcel, just make enough to live by myself without too much stress.

Coding is boring - can be frustrating and the field is filled with hypocrites that pretend they didn't go that route for the money.

Programming in the sense of making something on your own (a small game, or an arduino project) with the right language COULD be fun. But again it's mostly dry and messy

At a job you won't be doing any of that stuff. Either way they pay you to be there, so it's not supposed to be fun I don't know if you have to be smart to succeed, but the average stupid guy aka a dumbass conspiratard believing in tales would struggle.

Student finance gives you 4 years of funding + 1 gift year. So you will be able to restart another degree.

If I were in your position, I would get my A-level grades right (retake if you have to) and get into the best uni possible. Cambidge, Oxford, Imperial or St Andrews. Don't settle for anything else. Getting high paying job after that should be child's play

of course coding camps are a meme. going to college can help but it can be just a random degree, so you have a higher education. dont know where you live but im my country there is no legit "programming degree". IT sylabus is just a bit of everything, so you end up knowing nothing. maybe it just helps to get first job because of IT student status. imo the best option is to get degree in some useful business area eg. finance, learn programming by yourself and end up eg. in bank doing banking apps. programming is just a tool, knowing the business area you are working in is more important
