Should I get braces or palate expander?

I have always had a short mandible and recessed chin since I was mouth breathing and malnourished since birth, I went to a dentist and got night braces that jutted my teeth forward. I have just got it confirmed that I should stop with it. Should I get a palate expander or braces or something else orthodontic related?
