What does coke do

Coke doesn't do anything aside from make you more caffeinated. Which is probably a bad thing in this situation. I prefer Rum n Coke or Whisky n Coke to straight shots so that I can enjoy my drink slowly. That's all. I never was a fan of downing shots. Unless I really want to intentionally get drunk fast or want to challenge myself (Fireball cinnamon whisky really burns if you down it fast).
