We know alcohol acts as a social lubricant for most or all neurotypicals.
When it comes to neurodivergents and autistics, alcohol might make things worse. Non-NT people rely on learned knowledge and tactics to improve their social lives, for their default social instincts are insufficient. Since alcohol impairs brains’ abilities to think clearly, it’s possible that non-NTs drinking at nightclubs can cause them to fail to execute their social strategies.
Should non-NT people drink at nightclubs? I know many would answer that non-NTs shouldn’t go to nightclubs at all. But let’s say you’re in a club and you’re a non-NT who uses learned strategic tactics to navigate the social realm. What’s the better choice between drinking and not drinking?
