i work out close to waking up. i feel like it’s a lot of sugar to be consuming before and after workout.

Dont delude yourself into thinking you need carbs. Exogenous carbs are unnecessary because your body makes all the carbs it needs through gluconeogenesis.

Solution
Literally do them both
Liver glycogen stores are depleted after long sleeping time,have as much as u want in the morning
