like all muscles I'd assume it experiences most hypertrophy when trained to failure but I've seen others say its dangerous to train neck to failure

No you shouldn’t. A few reps before failure is the safest when training neck and would still give you equal hypertrophy.

i like to go 1-2 reps before failure, around 2 sets of 12-15 just because the neck is a dangerous muscle to train

why is dangerous and also how many times a week
ive been doing 2-3 times a week 4 sets close to failure per session idk if thats too much volume

im training neck curls with 5 lb weight I don't see that doing any damage
yeah IF you do it improperly, but u should still progressively overload, im at 22lbs rn, also too much volume imo i do it twice per week 2 sets failure
