Do they make your waist/hips bigger or do they kind of tighten your midsection ?
 
dont train obliques directly they are already being trained with most ab focused exercises

For aesthetics it depends on insertions and proportions, if your waist - hip ratio is outside the ideal range then it may be ideal to train them, a blocky midsection is better than a feminine one

im training abs because of boxing. sometimes my obliques get sore too. it doesnt look like my waist got bigger tbh. i have little abdominal distorsion or whatever is called that bubblegut

You should train them lightly it will make your cum gutters like sick, and make your mid section taper inwards making it look small. Only train if they are uneven in strength/size, and only train the weaker part. Cuz if 1 side of oblique is noticeable weaker, its gonna lead to postural issues
 
i haven't trained them, and my waist looks like a female model, over
