3. Sebum
4. Collagen and Skin Quality
5. Acne
6. Hyperpigmentation (big boy word)
7. Common skincare routine
8. Prescription skincare / skin treatments

10. Common myths
11. Conclusion
Basic Skin anatomy
The skin has 3 layers, Epidermis, Dermis, and Hypodermis
Epidermis is the outer protective layer that contains
keratinocytes and melanocytes and the Epidermis is responsible for the skin barrier
Keratinocytes are the primary type of cell found in the Epidermis ( about 90% of Epidermal skin cells)
Melanocytes are specialized cells that produce melanin ( the pigment responsible for skin, hair, and eye color.
Dermis is the middle layer, the dermis contains collagen and elastin, it also houses blood vessels, nerves, sweat glands, hair follicles, and sebaceous glands ( microscopic skin organs that produce sebum) The dermis also determines skin firmness and elasticity.
Hypodermis is the bottom layer, it is the fat layer beneath the skin, it provides facial volume, and also allows your skin to glide smoothly over the tissues and muscle beneath it.
The skin barrier
Think of your skin as a brick wall
Bricks=skin cells
Mortar=lipids
So basically the lipids hold your skin together in a way.
Main lipids:
Ceramides
Cholesterol
Fatty acids
if your skin barrier gets damaged, it leads to:
Dryness
Redness
Irritation
Inflammation
So a damaged barrier makes your skin look more dull and rough, and makes you look unhealthy.
How to maintain a healthy skin barrier?
Don't overly cleanse your face, that will remove too many natural oils and disrupt the lipid layer, instead use a gentle cleanser (like CeraVE) and cleanse 1-2 times a day.
Don't release your manlet rage by scrubbing your face aggressively, your skin is sensitive so be gentle.
Avoid using harsh soaps.
also you need to moisturize properly, get a good daily moisturizer, i personally recommend Tromborg ( scandinavian brand)
Don't keep changing your skin routine, since your skin needs to get used to the products, also don't exfoliate daily.
Sebum
What is sebum?
Sebum is a natural oil produced by the sebaceous glands in the Dermis skin layer, sebum helps protect the skin, maintain flexibility for the skin, and prevent water loss, so you don't get dry crusty skin.
Too much sebum isn't good, because it can contribute to an oily appearance, acne, and enlarged pores.
Too little sebum isn't good either, because it can cause dryness irritation and tight feeling skin.
How to manage sebum?
If you have oily skin:
Use a gentle cleanser
Use salicylic acid ( if you have clogged pores)
If you have dry skin:
Moisturize
avoid strong cleansers
support your skin barrier.
Collagen and Skin Quality
What is collagen?
Collagen is the main structural protein in the dermis skin layer.
it gives your skin its firmness, thickness, and strength
collagen is produced by fibroblasts
Why collagen matters for your looks:
Low collagen levels contribute to fine lines, less firmness, thinner looking skin, and reduced elasticity.
How to support collagen.
Retinoids
For example Tretinoin, Tret can increase collagen production, improve skin texture, and reduce fine lines.
for a milder retinoid there is adapalene.
I'd reccomend a 0,05% tret, and you should only apply a pea sized amount.
Nutrition
You need vitamin C for collagen formation, Fruit like Oranges and kiwis have a good amount of vitamin C.
Avoid collagen damage
A poor lifestyle will also fuck over your collagen, if you have a terrible sleep schedule and sleep 4 hours a night, your collagen production will be worse, smoking/nicotine can also negatively impact your collagen, however i personally choose to dnr this up to you tho
Acne
Why do you get acne?
There are four main causes of acne
1. Sebum production, more oil=higher clog risk
2. Dead skin buildup, skin cells can block pores
3. Cutibacterium acnes, a bacteria naturally found on the skin, that can contribute to inflammation
There are different types of acne
Comedones / blocked pores - Whiteheads and blackheads
Inflammatory acne - Papules, Pustules, and Nodules
Treating acne
Retinoids again.
Tret 0,05% my reccomendation, the retinoids can help prevent clogged pores and normalize skin cell turnover
then ofcourse there is
Accutane/ isotretinoin, dramatically reduces oil production ( can very much dry out your skin so remember to moisturize)
Benzoyl Peroxide, helps reduce the bacteria that can cause acne, and reduces inflammatory acne.
Salicylic acid, helps unclog pores, and reduce blackheads
Hyperpigmentation
Melanin is the pigment responsible for skin colour, the problem occurs when when the pigment becomes uneven
Some common causes for hyperpigmentation ( i feel so proud every time i spell it correctly)
Acne marks
Inflammation
Hormonal changes
Skin injuries
Treatments
again retinoids i think if you've read all of the above you understand which ones and what they do
Azelaic acid, helps pigmentation, acne and redness
Vitamin C, Antioxidant that can brighten uneven tone.
Common skincare
i will share my personal skincare routine, and why i do it the way i do
i first cleanse to remove dirt, excess oil, and products i have used throughout the day, such as if im frauding with some tinted sunscreen
i normally cleanse twice a day, once in the morning when i wake up, and once in the evening before i go to bed.
i use CeraVe hydrating cleanser the green one
I then moisturize to support my skin barrier, smoothen my skin and hydrate it ( cleansing can dry out your skin a bit)
i personally use Tromborg scandinavian young mood moisturizer
i personally don't use any retinoids but if you do apply it now if tretinoin apply a pea sized amount, then moisturize again after ( sandwich method)
If you have any of the problems i have listed before such as hyperpigmentation, just use the products i have listed as a solution
This is simply my skincare routine and you can follow it if you want.
Prescription skincare
Prescription skincare is designed designed to target specific skin problems more aggressively than normal skincare
Tretinoin (Retinoic acid) is a prescreption retinoid derived from vitamin A.
Benefits from Tret
Improves acne
Prevents clogged pores
Smooths skin texture
helps reduce fine lines
stimulates collagen production
can improve uneven pigmentation
Downsides from Tret
Dryness
Peeling
redness
irritation
possible purging ( acne flare)
How to use tret properly
Use a small pea sized amount as i've mentioned before, be consistent tret takes a while to work, start slowly a few nights a week, and if you want or experience too much dry skin, use the sandwich method ( moisturize tret moisturize )
Adapalene, a synthetic retinoid mainly used for acne.
Benefits
Prevents clogged pores
reduces acne formation
usually less irritating than tret
Isotretinoin/accutane, an oral vitamin A derivative used for severe acne.
Its tretinoin but oral basically but more powerfull and harsher sides.
Lifestyle factors
Sleep
During sleep, skin repair increases, hormone regulations improve, and inflammation can decrease.
Poor sleep can contribute to dull complexion, worse recovery, eyebags, bad collagen, and more visible fatigue.
Diet
Skin needs nutrition
important
Protein (of course)
needed for collagen production and tissue repair
Vitamin C
needed for collagen formation
Healthy fats
needed for cell membranes and skin barrier function
Exercise is also important because it improves circulation, supports overall health, and can help regulate stress. so go for a run boyos
Stress
Chronic stress increases cortisol and high stress can contribute to increased inflammation, acne flare ups (in some people), and poor healing.
Alchohol can also dehydrate the body, disrupt sleep, and trigger redness in some people cough cough ricecels
Common myths
The more products you use the better the skin! not true, having a simple yet efficient routine is a lot better than just smearing 200 cope products on your face. More products often means, more irritation and more barrier damage.
Natural products are a lot safer! is also stupid, because a lot of natural ingredients irritate or harm our skin.
Expensive skincare is always better! also wrong some good skincare will end up expensive but retinoids from india are cheap af
Conclusion
1. Fix your foundation
Before doing a bunch of advanced treatments, make sure your skin barrier is healthy.
2. Identify ur problems and fix them.
acne=retinoids, benzoyl peroxide, azelaic acid, isotretenoin/Accutane
dryness=barrier repair, moisturizers, reducing harsh products.
hyperpigmentation=retinoids and exfoliation
Poor skin texture=retinoids and exfoliation
3. Use proven ingredients such retinoids( tretinoin or adapalene), benzoyl peroxide, azelaic acid, niacinamide, salicylic acid, and ceramides
4. Be patient and consistent
Skin changes slowly most treatments require a while to work.
5. Lifestyle matters, don't eat like shit and sleep like shit.
Thanks a lot for reading hope you enjoyed! please give me some feedback if you have anything to add or correct, keep in mind this is my first real thread so please be nice
