Skin suddenly breaking out again after Tretinoin — what am I doing wrong?

My skin has been really bad in the pictures attached.

I’ve been using Tretinoin for about 2 months. At first it improved my skin a lot, but now for the past ~5 days it has suddenly broken out again and looks almost like before.

I’m confused because it was clearly getting better before this.

What could be the reason for this?

• Purging again?
• Barrier damage / overuse?
• External factors (diet, stress, etc.)?

What should I do now — continue tretinoin, pause, or adjust usage?
Any advice would help.
