crying is a residual behavior from infancy associated with omnipotence
as a baby, you invest demiurgical powers into your cries
every time you cry, your needs are met as if by magic. your mom holds, feeds you, changes your diaper. like the swipe of a wand
crying in response to stressors later in life is a residual behavior motivated by the slight hope that perhaps you do maintain some of this demiurgical power. it is the last resort when all else seems to have failed
