Sometimes I feel like I should just join the army. I might not make as much money as I do now, but at least the work has some sense of work-life balance. It’s not like I’m unfamiliar with that life — I’ve been in the infantry before and I know how to find happiness in the little things. I still remember drinking water that tasted like petrol and eating rock hard bread in the camps and still being content.
I wouldn't earn as much as I do now working in DevOps and staring at a screen all day but at least in the army, there's dignity in the work a clear purpose, and a certain level of respect unlike in tech where 90% of niggas think i am code monkey for some reason
There's structure, discipline, and a camaraderie that I miss it feels more meaningful than the constant deadlines and 24/7 availability in tech.
