South and East Asians, what do you think about south Asians claiming the word Asian outside the uk?

As a south Asian myself I’m genuinely not a big fan, would prefer to be called subcontential or something, being called Asian makes it confusing as we are combined statistically and have very different looking phenotypes, nobody is calling Arabs Asian for example when most are west Asian, just feels like cope from curry brah to benefit from the positive rep East Asians have. At the end of the day it’s not a huge deal but still bothers me. Thoughts?

that’s exactly what it is, this never happened before normies considered japan and south korea as cool

also ppl (not even just south asians themselves) will genuinely act like they’re the same race just because they’re from the same massive continent lol, this indian girl got exposed for larping as korean and some black girl was in the comments like “but indians are asian”

Exactly it’s willful ignorance. Genuinely pisses me off sometimes, we all know the difference between south Asians and East Asians you can’t just say “they’re both Asian” jfl, morrocans don’t fucking look like Kenyans but they’re both African, same thing here

I don’t mind the term south Asian in general it’s a good way to refer to the subcontinent but “Asian” as a category shouldn’t really include us a lot of the time imo
